Yes, pretty much so. I think it's a sign of the times. Mainly, your media and internet only seem to want to _cater_ to things if they're really common/ordinary, or if they're really stupid/easy to mock.
Anything else either gets censored to bits or not even mentioned--either way it becomes forbidden if not openly dissed for entirely irrational reasons. Case in point: The current "backlash" against being a fan/nerd-fan of comic books or animation. Now some few people out there want to make it "cool" to be a throwback to the days when people would openly bully, harass or make fun of you for liking "that stuff".
And as someone who grew up in the 1970s and 1980s back when that throwback mentality was the real deal, I can tell you, most of that attitude sucks and is rather pointless. There's no need to actually _encourage_ nerd-hating--many of us nerds already hate ourselves as it is.
But yeah, it's that sort of thing. It's a sign of the times--that everything has to be cheapened and dumbed down to get the acceptance of "those folks".

Yeah, but I've always felt that way.
I think I'm just weird though... the things I'm interested in are not mainstream. At the same time I have a hard time carrying on a conversation with women that only care about the last outfit they bought, what their friends are doing to pizz them off, or how some other female looks like a skank or whatever.
So... I am usually a loner.
