Hedgehog diet question?
Currently I feed my hedgehog dry cat food. I know they are supposed to eat insects, and when i first got her i tried to give her mealworms everyday and she was never even interested in them so we threw them away. My first question is, if insects are vital to their diet, how can i include that if she wont eat the worms? Is there some kind of vitamin or treat mix i can give her that is easy to find?
Second question is what treats are good for hedgehogs? SPECIFICALLY what fruits, veggies, etc...
Thanks.

Some hedgehogs won't have anything to do with worms. Use a high-quality cat food (one where the first ingredient is meat) and then you can supplement with a little cooked chicken breast, strawberries, blueberries, etc. No grapes though.

Insects per say are not vital but protein they provide is. My hedgehog refused mealworms also but I found that she loved crickets and ladybugs. Guess they like the crunch. Make sure you freeze they bugs for at least 12 hours before feeding to kill bacteria. As far as fruits I like to give freeze dried fruit any kind but only once in a great while due to high sugar content.

they usually like cat or dog meat, but they normally eat stuff like slugs and snails in the wild don't they?
