Is this a tumor on my neck?

I have this somewhat large bump on my neck, right below my jawbone on the right side of my throat. It hurts pretty bad when I swallow, and also when I touch it. You can see it sort of, especially when I stretch my neck by looking up. Is it a tumor? If not what could it be?

Update:

If it is thyroid cancer, is it possible to develop it at my age? I'm 15, turning 16 in a couple of months.

Update 2:

Also, could it be cause by smoking? I've been smoking for about a year now, not much though.

Update 3:

*caused

Update 4:

It hurts when I move my neck too, I forgot to add that in there.

Dakota, The swelling and pain you feel right below your jaw bone is NOT cancer and likely has nothing to do with smoking. It will take several more years before you get smokers' cancer. The location you describe is where of the 3 salivary glands is located = the submandibular salivary gland. (?mumps) It and the adjacent lymph node can become swollen when an infection is present or nearby. I suggest you start with a visit to a health clinic or doctor for a while-you-wait Rapid Trep Throat Swab test to check out the possibility of a Strep throat which would require a prescription antibiotic. Your family doctor or an Ear-Nose & Throat (ENT) MD should be able to tell you and recommend treatment, if needed. Meanwhile hold off on smoking while can cause further irritation.

It can be a thyroid tumor or a parathyroid tumor. You should get that checked first by a doctor; those are easily treated. It can also be just an enlarged lymph node, which is swollen and reacting to an infection somewhere in your body.

The fact that it hurts when you touch it or swallow concerns me - it can also be tonsillitis which would explain the pain when you swallow. I cannot see it, obviously, but it can also be just an enlarged cyst of some kind.

Obviously you should see a doctor who can look at it and do all of the tests and order the proper meds if you need them. Get well soon. Your health is a true asset for your life. You should guard it .

coach your mothers and dads and circulate to a physician. That reported, no longer all tumors are cancerous and not all lumps are tumors. I fairly have a lump in my neck and it fairly is a cyst - it basically grew. i've got had it with the aid of fact that i became a toddler and as long because it does not get extra desirable, the surgeon says that i'm superb. yet circulate to a physician.

What you have is a swollen lymph node(s). These are part of your immune system and swell as a result of illness, injury, infection, traumas, and cancer. You may have a dental infection or a viral illness. Give it 6-8 weeks to go back down. If it doesn't go down, gets bigger or more pop up then see your physician to get to the bottom of the swelling. Good Luck

EDIT: A sore lymph node is a healthy lymph node. Cancer in the lymph nodes(usually) makes them rock hard and painless.
