Baby Bearded Dragon - Cricket problem?

Ok yesterday i bought my baby bearded dragon, anout 3 weeks old. I should feed him small crickets but the problem is that the crickets i bought are way too big for him. (not all but most of them in the pack)

So, can i cut them in two pieces and feed my dragon each one at a time???

And also. how many should it be fed?

you could cut up some crickets but the bearded dragon might not go after them if they don't move. you could also go buy some individually at the pet store. when you buy each individually it is cheaper than buying a pack(lunch box) of them.

you should feed as many as he can eat in 5-10 minutes

I also have a bearded dragon. U do not have to cut the crickets up because he or she may not eat them. But, next time u go to the petstore, ask for SMALL crickets just say, " may I have ( however many crickets you are getting) SMALL crickets?" and DO NOT have them dusted w calcium. it makes them die quicker. Instead, just buy the bottle of calcium powder, and when it is feeding time, put the crickets in a bag w the calcium, and shake it until they are all dusted. For a 3 week old beardie, I would probably be feeding it around 5-9 crickets a day. Hope I helped!

Buy younger crickets. He probably won't eat cut up crickets. You can try though. Stick them in a shallow dish. They like to eat mobile things though. Sometimes they will eat dead crickets though.

Also, you should try feeding him some kale. (leafy green)

they generally eat anywhere from 20-60 SMALL crickets a day. But if you mix some Kale in there not as much

My beardies will happily eat close to 100$ of crickets a week. While they grow up they need lots of food, but not as much once they become juveniles.

Do some google research on what vegetables and fruits bearded dragons can eat, and try testing them out on your beardie. Each bearded dragon is different. They don't all like to eat the same things. (except they all seem to like Kale) and provide fresh veggies everyday for them as well as 20-60 crickets.

Your beardie will stop eating when it is full. That's how you can tell when to stop feeding it.

Also, do not feed beardies spinach, avocado or citrus fruits. Spinach stops the absorption of calcium in their little bodies and citrus is just not good for them. (or tomatoes) And avocado is poisonous to them.

PLEASE do not feed your beardie 5-9 crickets a day. Unless what you're looking for is for your beardie to live a short and unhappy life.

no, most reptiles are hunters not scavengers. you should of bought the small commercial crickets for him instead. if you cut them in half they will die and loose all their nutrients. remember! bearded dragons MUST be fed LIVE food for a daily diet!>and since its a baby i would say about 3 to 4 crickets a day depending on how big the cricket is and the beardie...

i had the same problem.....i had only 1 pet store within a 10 mile radius of my house so everytime i asked for the smallest crickets they have they gave me some medium sizd crickets, 20 of them... i still fed them to it and there was not a problem, no choking. as long as the crickets arnt too big
