Have you ever spent time in a psychiatric unit?

If so, how was it? Did it help you in anyway?

You should read "Its Kind of a Funny Story"

Sorry that was random, but its a really good book, and I think you'd like it.

Nope, I haven's spent any time in a psychiatric unit, but the book I mentioned is the author's true story about being in one.

No, but my friend had a couple of times now for severe bipolar manic episodes. I've visted her at them many times. Lots of crazies walking around...screaming or obsessively organizing. Some people are medicated and just sit quietly, some cry. Seems like a fricken nightmare...I don't see how it helps her other than keeping her from hurting herself or others while she's at her worst. They get her back on her meds and try to get a plan in place for her...but she usually just goes off her meds and the fun starts all over.

I was in one. didn't make things better, nor did I think it was terrible. i spent a week there for some reason then they let me out and gave me to the outpatient part of the hospital. they on the other hand never came close to helping so now I have to go through another organization to find a better therapist

The only thing it did for me was to realise just how glad I am not to be in there now that I am out. It was a rough experience. There was a saying. "If you're not mad when you come in, then you will be when you leave". Horrible place full of trouble.

No but have worked in a few- Most folks just get treated for symptoms- No real cure to mental illness-
