I cant get out of this riding rut?

I used to answer questions on here a LOT if anyone remebers me and I was pretty well known. I used to know so much about horses and be so talented.

I started riding when i was 8.... but during the last few years of high school I stopped riding and my horse got sold. I started riding again when I got to college on the equestrian team but I have never been the same.

I used to show, I used to jump pretty good sized jumps and I was GOOD. My trainer and team doesn't even believe that I used to be so talented based on how shitty I ride now. I can't do the things I used to do, hell, I can't even do a whole hunter course.

I just dont understand what's going on. I feel like a failure. I dont know how to get out of this rut, my confidence is absent and I dont know what to do to get back to the way I used to be... Or if i ever will...

Any advice? Anyone experienced the same thing?

Update:

Yeah, well the barn is off campus and the team actually isnt funded through my school. I have a great trainer and ride once a week in group lessons... Maybe I could ride 2x if I can afford it and that might help.

I just dont know how to get my confidence back

You just need to put in time to polish up your skills. They are probably pretty rusty. You could take some off campus private lessons to get back into it. It will just take time and determination.

I rode all though high school at a pretty high level, but after taking 4+ years off during college I was completely out of riding shape. When I first started riding again it was hard b/c my mind knew what it wanted my body to do, but my body was not in riding shape and couldn't follow through.

It sounds like you just need some more time in the saddle to get back in shape. Ask your trainer if there are horses at the barn that need to be hacked, it could be a good way to help them out and get you back into shape at the same time.

Ask the trainer if he has horses that need exercising and if so that will give you some horses to ride several days a week. I quit riding for several years but did not loose anything but my balance the knowledge was still there,

Each time you ride, before you jump in the saddle, take a deep breath and tell yourself you can do this,. Try journaling about how you use to ride, and how it felt and what you remember experiencing riding.

generally you do not decide for to fly into them finished speed. you elect for which one seems best to you - often the smallest rut and coast into it. as quickly as you're in it open it up finished throttle and it facilitates to lean forward or sit down on the tank in case you will desire to. That way in the journey that your lower back wheel falls out of the rut and you pass rut you may only lean forward and means by it. attempt to maintain the two tires interior an identical rut yet whilst the lower back starts off to come back out, means by - you in no way decide for the front to come back out by way of fact the front tire will wash out; so issue on the subject of the front greater effective than the lower back.
