Here goes: A witness takes an oath to tell the truth...the facts. A lawyer cannot put on evidence he knows is false, he cannot perpetrate a fraud on the court or otherwise pervert the course of justice. But that doesn't stop him from holding the prosecution to its burden-- to prove beyond a reasonable doubt every element of the crime charged in the indictment/information. And the defense can put forward hypothetical scenarios it knows are not factually true in order to test the strength of the prosecution's evidence and theory of the case.
If he knows his client did it, an attorney would likely push for a plea-- but if it does go to trial, a lawyer cannot allow his client to take the stand and perjure himself, he has to noisily seek to withdraw from the case.

the lawyers aren't making claims about information relevant to the case. They just try to convince people of a certain aspect of it
