ROUTer, yes it sure does, its in the name, routes the connection to multiple computers =)
just for kicks, the modem receives the connection from your isp (internet service provider)

even switch does the same.
Router is to connect two different networks. For example connecting 10.10.0.0 and 10.10.1.0
your home network to ISP network
