Can you eat all the broccoli or is it just the dark green part for eating?

I have always wondered if you can eat the stem as well as the head or the flower part of broccoli as it seems a hell of a waste especially as you buy by weight and the stem is the heavier part.

I cut the florets away from the stem, and some part of the stem can be cooked depending on how thick it is as it tends to be woody.

For you, the best way would be to cook and then decide for yourself how much to eat.

Ours are sold per each, not weight, so I will always buy the biggest.

You can certainly eat the stem, I do all the time...it does take more time to cook then the florets, since it is a bit tough and stringy...some people actually peel the stems before cooking, but I don't bother, I just cut the stems into smaller pieces, and they end up cooking at the same time as the florets

you can eat the stems they are tougher you just have to know how to cook them. Steaming is a great way to cook broccoli and cauliflower

All of it.Broccoli is made up of florets and stem ,called spears.Personally I like the stem best anyway,it is so succulent.

You sure can! It tastes quite nice too. Just cook it how you would normally cook broccoli (steamed, boiled etc). You may find it needs to be cooked just a tad longer to soften it though.
