My car wont start Need help.?
I left my lights on the other day and my car died. I figured it wouldn't be a big deal, so tonight I went to jump it with my girlfriends car and it still wouldn't work. One thing I noticed while jumping it was that my lights turned on automatically and I had switched them over to off. The car lights still stayed on with a very dim light afterwards until they slowly died out. I called AAA and they came and switched my battery after telling me my old one was dead and my car still wouldn't start.
Even after changing the battery my automatic car doors wont work and the radio wont turn on when I turn the key. The inside light will work, but that's it. The car sounds like it's just about to start but wont turn over. The guy from AAA didn't seem to really care and gave me his card for the garage he works at. I feel like he's just trying to bring his business more money, and noticed that I don't know much about cars. I would like to try to fix this myself before shelling out a few hundred I don't have to. I'm a college student and have little money :/. Any ideas?
It's a 98 toyota camry. Would I still need to jump the car after he replaced the battery?
I'm not sure what you mean by cranking and clicking. When I try to turn the car on it feel like it is stalling out or something. It gets to the point where it sounds like it's going to turn on, but just wont.
The car doesn't have an alarm.

Is the engine rotating when you try to start it? (cranking?) or just a click? I will list a few possible issues.
1. starter/solenoid (one unit) is bad.
2. Even though you have a new battery sometmes even new batteries are faulty. May need to take it back for replacement.
3. Check fuses/fusable links. Look in your owners manual and look for ignition fuses ect. and check to see the have not blown out, and replace if nessecary..very simple and cheap to do. I would worry about spark plugs (1st) unless the car does rotate when starting but get no spark..refer to the 3 issues first. Hope this helps. good luck.

You did not say what type of car, it sounds like it is a security problem. Some cars when the battery is removed or dies as yours did there is some type of code to get the system back on line. One car I know about requires that the signal lights be turned on, then the radio, wipers and some other things before it will start. Check with the dealer.

First you need to reset alarm, if you have a remote entry push both lock/unlock down together until horn beeps. Radio may be coded if after you reset alarm radio doesn't work and says code on front you'll need to re-enter code, if you don't know code dealer can get for you. AAA idiot obviously car wouldn't start because of alarm system. If no remote lock car from inside and unlock with key, if after market alarm should be a little toggle switch under drivers side dash flip it. Hope this helps.
