Bolt is reported to be the highest paid runner in the world, so it is several million.

Elite athletes have contracts with shoe and clothing companies that pays lots of money, most have some kind of contract that might pay them some money but not a lot.

I know an elite runner who I was told makes $2,000,000 per year from Adidas, but I have never asked him and he has not volunteered that information.

They also get appearance money from the big track meets, because the promoters need the big names to sell tickets.

Well, if you don't win consistently or hold any records, your sponsor will cover most of your travel, hospitality and necessities. But many athletes have normal jobs just to get by.
