Why are democrats yelling about planned parenthood being shut down, when it's a 5013C non profit?

I think that Planned Parenthood should be shut down for a different reason. They've been doing something that any 501(c)(3) ought not to be doing, and that is financially supporting certain persons for political office. To keep said status, Planned Parenthood, as are ALL 501(c)(3)s, are both directly and indirectly prohibited from participating in or engaging in political campaigns.

I understand your point, but many not for profit organizations do take grants and endowments from the government and it is perfectly legal under tax code.(although I admit that it is not on the scale of PP by any stretch of the imagination). I personally think it makes NFP organizations more suspect if they accept money from the government, but that is just my opinion.

Most NFP organizations survive by private endowments from individuals or companies and self sustaining economic activity.

A 501(c)(3) is allowed to accept grants from the government. In fact, it "normally receives a substantial part of its income, directly or indirectly, from the general public or from the government."

Where did you get the impression that non profits were not allowed to accept government funds?

They think the GOVERNMENT should be in the business of REPRODUCTIVE issues.

People who need the government to pay for their abortions... are ot the "type" - that don't mind being beholding to the government for other things... Like HOUSING.
