I've had SUPER sensitive teeth my whole life...?

When I was younger it would just be difficult to eat hot or cold foods(more especially cold). I figured I could just use my lips to cover my teeth when I drank or ate things....and for the most part, I was able to get by fine. Keep in mind, this is my entire mouth not just one or too teeth. I've only had two cavities in my molars as well and its completely different.

My sensitivity got worse as I grew older and when I was 17 I got my braces put in. It was torture when they had to take molds of my teeth and they used the mouth guard thing with that cold plaster oozy stuff. I had to sit there and my mouth would pulsate with pain. Ever since then if I ever go anywhere where the AIR is just too cold out of no where I have horrible gum and tooth pain for about an hour. It just gets worse and more frequent episodes of pulsating pain occur as I get older(im 26). It's to the point where if I get Novocaine for a dental treatment I have to get multiple shots in order for the dentist to begin working on me. And yes I do use Sensodine toothpaste.

I was wondering if anyone else has this problem and what they have done to help lessen the sensitivity? Any treatments? Can it be diagnosed as a condition?

It's just bad luck. You diagnosed it yourself, it's dental hypersensitivity and it is a condition that affects many people. You are on the right track to use sensodyne. If you rinse your mouth after brushing try just spitting out the toothpaste only without rinsing. This might help more of the ingredient in sensodyne stay on your teeth. If that doesn't work then ask your dentist for a prescription toothpaste like prevident 5000 get. It has 1.1% sodium fluoride and that can help, use it the same way as I suggested the sensodye. Another option available from your dentist is a sodium fluoride varnish treatment. The best thing to do is talk to your dentist about these and other options to treat this. Sometimes chronic clenching can make teeth more sensitive so discuss that with them as well. I have heard that ozone treatments work great but that is not done in very many places in the US. If you live in Canada you may be able to find someone to do this for you.

I had sensitive teeth and didn't know what it was, but my dentist and I realized I was grinding my teeth from stress and it was causing them to be sensitive. So he told me to wear a nightguard (I got a 30 some dollar one from the drug store, no need to pay big bucks). I have stopped grinding now that I'm not stressed though. I'd see the dentist cause your sensitivity could be caused from a number of factors. I had no idea he'd tell me it was tooth grinding, it was a surprise. Could be anything. Could be allergies, etc. So I'd go to a good dentist and see.

If he's not flopping about doing the funky chicken and his eyes and ears are clean and clear and he has energy, he's eating and he seems like a happy rat then stop panicking. It is possible... I'm just putting it out there mind you.. these little guys are very bright...that if when he grunts and sneezes you lavish lots of love and attention on him he may start grunting and sneezing to get more loving. It sounds like you are a very attentive owner and that's good but you have to enjoy them too. I've found the best way to get over obsessing about one rat is to get lots of rats!!!!!

I feel your pain girl! Hope it gets better.

My teeth hurt sometimes. I usually drink like 3 or 4 beers and it goes away.
