I need more storage on my laptop. What's the best option for me?
I have an HP dv6500. I need more room for my files, music, movies, pictures, etc. The most important thing is that my files are safe - I can't lose any of it. What's my best option? RAID? External hard drive? I could make do with 500GB but could easily use 1 or 2 TB. I can follow directions and handle some manual setup but I'm not really a techie so let me know if more details are needed to find a solution. Thank you!

I would go with an external hard drive, they are getting really cheap these days.
Another option that is free and might be more convenient (but requires internet connection) is to use online storage.

Buy a large storage size external hard drive ( 1 or 2 TB) and copy the files to the external hard drive and then remove them from the lap tops hard drive. Only option for such a large quantity of files.
You could use a online file storage but would be in some one else's hands.

You can copy all of the files onto an external hard drive or burn pictures and music onto blank cds. If you go with the hard drive, don't buy a Western Digital hard drive because Western Digital doesn't make them good. If you have files, like pictures, that won't be modified, burn them onto a cd as it will last longer than a hard drive.

Go with RAID 1 it creates an exact copy of the data. Here is one, a little on the steep side but it is plug and play http://www.jr.com/gtech/pe/GTC_GSF3500/
