Why do people consider NASCAR a sport?

I don't, I consider it a sanctioning body, the sport is called auto racing. Now with that said I've noticed one thing this question always gets asked here(last time I checked over 2000 times now) and rarely in the Indy Car(ok no one really asks questions in that section, but still) or Formula One sections. If you're going to sit there and question one form of auto racing, why not the others?

And at the same time as warmth does play a element...i'd not say that in basic terms via the undeniable fact that is warm contained in the vehicles that the drivers are athletes. and considering that the definition of recreation is an energetic diversion requiring actual exercising and competition, i could say that easily NASCAR as well as the different motor racing is a recreation.

My guess is this is because Nascar fits every definition of the word 'sport'.

To add to what "Wedge..." was saying - why aren't other forms of racing questioned? Downhill skiing, 100 meter hurdles, horce racing, motorcycle racing, swimming, etc etc.

And for once, I'd like to hear why you morons think it ISN'T a sport.

Auto racing is the only sport. Everything else is just a game!
