My dog is having puppies and I was wondering what color their going to be?

There going to be black or whiteor black and white or brown or grey. Depends on the breeds and genes. But black tends to be dominant.

What color and the sire and dam's parents? Their grandparents? Are you seriously asking with color is cuter? Color is color! Stop breeding dogs! Are you breeding mutts, too? Life-threatening comlications can develop during labor. Do you know what signs to look for? Do you know the signs of calcium defiency are? But, as a backyard breeder, you probably don't care. Bells is not being rude! Just because your dogs are healthy, doesn't mean they are breeding quality!

It depends on genetics:

Think of it this way:

Mother = BB (full black - both parents are black as well)

or

Mother= Bb (dominant allele is black therefore making the dog aka the mother black, but the small 'b' is a different colour like white, brown etc)

Father = HH (same description as before)

or

Father = Hh (same description as before)

If the letters to the genetics are both caps (BB,HH) it means the colour is a continuous colour. (BB=all black aka black mother and father make black pups)

(Bb= black mother and white father make black and white pups)

so depending on your Dogs' mothers and fathers, it determines the colours of your pups!

Color is determined by genetics. Not just the color of the parents but the colors of their parents & their parents.

What breed are the parents? Like if they were Chihuahua's the probability's vary quite a bite, bi colors, tri colors, solids of several colors.

A lot depends on the breed & the genetics of that breed.

I have no positive comments for backyard breeders......

Have your breeding dogs been tested for genetic diseases? Have they been proven in show or work of some kind?

Do you have a breeding mentor? A contract written up? Any kind of genetic guarantee?

Know anything about whelping complications? How to save the life of your b*tch? Got thousands of dollars saved up for her vet care?

Those things are more important than "what color is cuter" - how shallow.

Anita - talk about ignorant.... "dominate" is an action: as in "to dominate".... the word you're looking for is "dominant." And there is nothing "ignorant" about Bells statement. It's pure fact.

And poster - yes, backyard breeder: you allowed two intact dogs to be alone, didn't bother to learn about heat cycles or signs of, thus allowing this "accidental" mating. No "accident" to it. Period.

Healthy? What are their hip scores? Are they clear of all cardiac, eye, ear, and breed specific diseases? Where their parents? They don't have to HAVE a disease to be a carrier, nor do they have to show symptoms. A vet would not be able to clear them of ANY genetic disease in one office visit - testing is sent away.

the colour of the resultant puppies depends upon the genes carried by both parents, not the colours that the parents are.
