At the top, there should be a button or link to Google labs, where there is more icons, including animated and circular icons.

If you're looking for round smiles there's a tab you can click on to change.
In an email, click on the smiles tab and look at the bottom and you'll see where you can change.
In an SMS look at the top.
By the way, did you know you can make an animated cowbell? Type in +/'\ in chat!
