How was the USA Founded on Christianity?

In 1954, after a campaign by the Catholic Knights of Columbus, Senator Homer Ferguson of Michigan sponsored a bill to amend the Pledge of Allegiance to include the words "under God". On June 8, 1954, Congress adopted this change.

A law was passed by the 84th United States Congress and approved by the President on July 30, 1956. President Dwight D. Eisenhower approved a joint resolution declaring In God We Trust the national motto of the United States. The same Congress had required, in the previous year, that the words appear on all currency, as a Cold War measure: "In these days when imperialistic and materialistic Communism seeks to attack and destroy freedom, it is proper" to "remind all of us of this self-evident truth" that "as long as this country trusts in God, it will prevail."

    These shores weren't landed on by muslims or atheists back then.

    As for the John Adams quote in relation to the Treaty of Tripoli, like anything else, it has to be looked at in its proper historical context.

    John Adams was merely trying to placate the muslims. I would have thought that most people would have seen that by now, but I guess not. It was pure politics. In this country's colonial days, there was a bible on every desk in every colonial school, and the Lord's prayer was recited every morning before classes began.

    Err, the Dey (Ruler) of Tripoli stated emphatically in the original 11th article in Arabic that the United States WAS a Christian nation, and his fear was that the US government would attempt to conquer and then convert the "musselman" to Christianity.

    Additionally, Supreme Court Justice Josiah Brewer himself stated that the US was indeed a Christian nation.

    Might want to read the Massachusetts Bay Colony charter sometime. It's an interesting read and has been called "the precursor to the US Constitution" (it's preamble is almost exactly worded like the preamble to the dejure US Constitution).

    Many of the founders were Christians and followed Christian values. Most of the early colonies were settled by Christian groups. The United States largely was founded to support freedom of religion. The United States was not ever supposed to be a Christian dictatorship but Christian values have existed from the dawn. During the 1800's, there was many revivals and awakenings and the majority of the population was always Christan's and very strong at it.

    However, your right. The United States was not supposed to ever put one religion above another.

    According to the founding fathers it pertains to any religion. That is basically the meaning of "Freedom of Religion". There is a misconception that America has always been purely Christian. Our country has a history with more than 20 religions.

    In regards to the slogans in the 1950s, I view that as a biproduct of the high sentiment for Christianity at the time. 60 years later, there has been a decline. Pastors, fed up with low attendance, say things like "Do we have to give you free beer for you to come to church?" I wouldn't take that statement lightly.

    In all honesty most of the founding fathers were deists and atheists and handful of them where christian

    and for anyone who does know a deists is someone who believes in a creator but not organized religion

    And in my opinion even though people claim to be Christans most of them are deists people rarely follow the rules and values of Christianity today.

    The words god, jesus, christ, christian and CREATOR do not appear in the constitution.

    "Creator" appears in the Declaration of Independence.

    The dec IS NOT A LAW.

    I have no idea .There is absolutely nothing in the Bible that promotes democracy or self governance and God is a dictator that is answerable to nobody

    The USA was founded on Judeo-Christian Principles. That is to say "doctrine".

    To imply that the USA was founded on Christianity itself is to imply DOGMA, not "doctrine". Obviously, the USA is founded on Judeo-Christian Prinicples, not actual Church Dogma.
