can turning on the heater while the a/c is on damage the cooling system in a Dodge Neon?
Shortly after my friend turned the heater on in the car while the a/c was on the car overheated and resulted in water/coolant mixing with transmission fluid. I parked the car and all kinds of fluid puddled underneath.

Your radiator is broken, not related to what your friend did at all. It is normal to use both the AC and heat in winter too defrost windows.

When the defroster selection is used, the AC is also turned on. So cars are designed to work with both working. Something else is wrong and this action did not cause the problem.

that is strange and bazzar, sorry. the coolant mixing with trans fluid is not related to the AC/Heat in and way. when you turn the dial it automaticly shuts one off and turns the other off. I have a neon and so far have not had any such problems.
