How to request cell phone etiquette at work?

I work in an open plan office, with about 30 people. Many of them have recently gotten the latest BlackBerry and they are obviously very proud of their newest toy. All of them are doing the BB Chat thing during working hours and it sometimes sounds like a games arcade in the office with all the message notifications going off. The boss is hardly ever at the office, and she's one of the people with a new toy too. The noise is sometimes so bad that I can't concentrate on my work.

How can I politely ask that people put their phones on silent mode while at work?

go to whomever is in charge of HR and have them issue something about COMMON COURTESY and workplace etiquette. i'm shock they are letting this happen as that is really poor management.... people are screwing around instead of working!

You don't - because you are talking about 30 people not 1 or 2. You take your problem to the HR department and let them deal with circulating a memo . You do have a HR department right? Or is the boss the owner. Even if the boss is the owner and you don't have HR department, no boss wants to know that the employees are not working and playing on their cell phones. Just tell the boss that your work performance is being affected and that it is unfair that you work 8 hours while others are doing less because they spend a lot on personal time which should be limited to two 15 minute break during the day.

i think of the 1st and formost element is to not shout in front of others over the cellular telephone. In case there is any problem in listening to on the different end, greater constructive disconnect and phone lower back. once you're in a team and you get a call, excuse them and pass removed from them to attend the call and are available lower back as early as achieveable. I f you know the caller, attend the call and with politeness tell him/her which you're able to call back later. Your ringing tone could desire to be on the backside or positioned the telephone in silent mode. do not communicate inner maximum issues loudly in front of others.

It is your boss's responsibility to set phone use policies. It will be most appropriate if you speak to her about it; otherwise, you will almost certainly create resentment toward you from your coworkers.
