why did i get a violation for answering a question fully, then asking them to search next time?

someone asked a question on the difference between OHV and OHC engines.... i directed him to a link that explained the difference and then said i used a search engine and searched "whats the difference between OHV and OHC engines" and this was the first link.... please do a simple search on your question before you ask it because chances are its been answered before

and if you say it violates community guidelines, show me where...

You did not answer the question. Just providing a link is not an answer. You are also not allowed to say search next time.

"We ask that community members follow the question-and-answer format because Yahoo! Answers is a question-and-answer community. This means when you post a question, it must be written in the form of a question. When you post an answer, it must attempt to answer the question being asked."

A link is not an answer unless the person asked for a link. Sometimes I will summarize an answer and then give the link in the source for the full details.

    Being mean or obscene

Because kids as young as 13 may participate in Yahoo! Answers, sexually explicit and vulgar language and images are not welcome on the site. Also not welcome are belligerence, insults, slurs and generally objectionable speech. If you wouldn't say it in public, don't post it on Answers. Read more

You're message may have come across as belligerent or "objectionable". People come to yahoo answers to get help looking for answers. I'm sure you're intentions were great, but somebody might not have seen it that way. I agree that it is unfortunate, but this is most likely the reason.

It violates the rules because you made NO ATTEMPT WHATSOEVER to answer the question yourself.

By your reasoning we could just refer every question to a search engine, and that is not the aim of this site.
