Why do a couple of individual posters?

seem to think that everyone wants or needs a fast, high horsepower sport bike? They especially love to rag on Harleys, but most are generous enough to include all cruisers of any brand. They can't seem to understand that some of us don't need or even want 150+ hp bikes capable of <10 second quarter miles and 186 mph top speed. Some of us want to see the country we're riding through. Oh, I ride Jap bikes (dressers), not HD or cruisers.

It puzzles me also.I think anyone should be allowed to ride whatever they please without being insulted.Ninebadthings is probably the worst of the bunch you speak of.I can't recall ever seeing an answer to a Harley question answered by him with anything resembling a helpful answer.Just insults.I try to just ignore anal retentive idiots and their drivel. The true fans of the sport of motorcycling are folks like yourself(and myself i hope)that try to help anyone with an answer that maybe useful to them regardless if it's a 50cc scooter or the baddest sport bike or cruiser on the planet.I dislike the division between riders of different types of bikes. It shows a lack of maturity and respect to my way of thinking. The brotherhood of two wheels should endure no matter what someone chooses to ride.

This stems form the early 70's.Back in the day the Harley owners ragged on anyone riding an Asian bike and persists today. Now that the shoe is on the other foot some people on sport bikes are being just as ignorant toward cruiser bike riders as they have been towards us for decades.

Personally I don't like cruiser bikes as they lack the balance and control of a sport bike and especially Harley as I never bought into the image. No one that really knows me will ever talk down any bike around me and those that do soon find themselves on the wrong end of an argument.

Everyone has ragged on Harley's for years. Even owners of them have. For many years Police officers who rode bikes got a tax break when they got a Harley. Many complained that the Harley would not run in the rain very well, which sometimes happens. They said there Kawasaki ran fine and was much faster, then Kawasaki came out with a bad year of bikes and many guys got killed on them or wrecked and got big cash payouts from the default.

It use to be the Jap bikes that got all the bad talk, now it's just flipped around back to Harley's again.

I say, enjoy life on the road at your own speed. See what makes you happy and forget what others think. That's what makes us all happy in the long run.

    (Have fun).

Yep, it gets a bit old after a while. Everyone has different requirements from a bike and to pay out on someone who has a different style of riding or bike is immature at best.

I like Harleys but they don't do what I want from a bike (go around mountain road corners very quickly) so I am not going to buy one unless I win the lottery. Some of the HD riders are wankers though. I saw a guy at the lights the other day and I counted 14 Harley Davidson embroidered emblems(?) sewn onto his jacket. What is the point?

As long as it has 2 or 3 wheels and an engine, it's ok by me.

    "ninebadthings", are your ears burning?

Some people only appreciate a narrow slice of the motorcycling spectrum (how's that for a mixed metaphor?!). For some, if it can't wheelie through 90 mph, it's no good. Others want 50 lbs. of chrome dripping from their bike, or 500 LED lights.

My bikes range from 34 to 146 HP. I love giving scooter and moped riders "the Wave"--freaks them out, especially if they just spotted the "turbo" badge on my BMW. If I had no bikes, and somebody said, "Here, take this one", I would say, "Yes, thank you!" no matter WHAT kind it was.

I too have noticed that. There are many styles of riding. Sportbikes are even divided into Naked, supersport, and other catagories. For some they like to stunt. Personally, I ride a Honda Rebel most of the time. I have a large triumph for highway. But, for leisure riding around town the honda rebel gets the best gas mileage and gives me the most ride time per gallon. I also like sportbikes. But, all riders need to be able to appreciate all styles of riding. Having just one style to me is a closed mind.

I look at a motorcycle as a piece of sports equipment or a tool. I want it to efficiently do the job it is meant to do and I want a dollar to buy a dollar's worth of performance.

A harley is to a motorcycle what a Gucci bag is to a backpack. Pretentious and vulgar. It's about spending premium money on a look and a name and that's all you get. There is no performance there. It's not a backpack that is expensive but cleaver and useful, it's not a backpack that is simple but durable and inexpensive, it's a freaking bag with a fancy logo that someone paid big bucks for because they want to be seen with the name and don't give a crap about what kind of job it can do.

You don't see me criticizing people who ride scooters, or little dual sports or standards for not buying maximum horsepower. These are fellow motorcyclists getting the job done with style maybe but minus the pseudo biker attitude and costume shop gear. You do see me giving squid wanna bees just as hard of time as I give to those who accessorize their look with a Harley.

Just my opinion ladies, agree, disagree or get a chuckle, no one is forcing you to read it. I was all about Harleys 40 years ago, but the riders have changed and unfortunately the bikes haven't. When it comes to cruisers I don't respect the bikes and I don't respect the subculture or attitude. It's corny.

It wouldn't hurt the world if there were a few less squids getting innocent people involved with their teenybopper sense of invulnerability. It wouldn't hurt the world to have a few less harleys out there making a ton of noise and clogging up two lane roads and driving up the prices on doo-rags and cargo trailers.

I couldn't agree with you more. We all know who they are. I just skip reading their comments because they don't offer any useful information, just old stale thoughts.

I attribute it to arrogance and perhaps immaturity. They think everyone should like what they like and do what they do.
