Cardio exercises for an above knee amputee?
As an amputee I struggle to keep active. Many of the conventional cardio exercises aren't options for me.
I've had multiple knee surgeries to my good leg, so I can't run or walk for very long.
Climbing stairs isn't very great of an option as I can't go foot over foot up the stairs.
I'm unable to bike, I can't keep proper balance.
I'm open to suggestions, I just want to get active and prevent weight gain, maybe burn a little fat

Cardio exercises is not for then try weight lifting. If put effort in weight lifting you will be able to burn enough calories to stay lean. Read this web page it about a man named Nick Scoot who was in a car accitdent and became wheelchair bond. He gain weight and decided to change his life by weigth lifting. I should have to say he's an inspirational.

I have a bad joint in my left leg and find cardio to be annoying and painful so I weight lift often to stay in shape.

I have a through knee or knee disarticulation amputation the result of having been run over by an impared driver when I was 17. I never had sex prior to becoming an amputee. I lost my virginity when I was 18. At the time I recall being self conscious about removing my prosthesis prior to having sex. It may help to encourage your partner to lounge around without wearing his prosthesis. This will put him at ease knowing you are cool with it and should you start making out there will be no "prosthesis interuptus" to take anything away from the heat of the moment. Your partner may find it difficult to perform sex doggy style but spooning while laying on his sound side should not be a problem. *** to think of it aa more extended or stretched out version of the doggie style should still work. Sex can be performed while wearing a prosthesis but unless it was a quickie in a public washroom, I always found it more relaxed and comfortable to go without. There may be some benefit in that your boyfriend may try harder to prove himself a good lover as compensation for his disability. You can expect some limitations to physical activities and/or adjustments or modifications in order to perform those activities. Your encouragement will be appreciated. I recall two twin girls who dragged me roller skating during my college years. The best thing I ever did was to learn to ski. One more thing.... Your boyfriends disability is an added responsibility he must consider everry day. He will never be as carefree as he would if he was able bodied. An I'll fitting prosthesis or a broken down prosthesis can add considerable stress to his day. On such days his patience may be thin and he might be irritable. Try to understand and have empathy for such times. Good luck and cheers to you for recognizing the person behind the disability.

swimming is great because of the little to no impact on your joints. i know that they use swimming as physical therapy for a lot of amputees.
