If you have less than a gigabyte of RAM on your computer, believe it or not, you may be able to speed it up simply by adding memory. I just added a second 512 Megabytes of RAM to my XP machine and it seems to be flying now. The extra RAM cost me all of $12.99.

First, find out how much RAM your machine already has, this way:

    1. Right-click My Computer and select Properties.

    2. At the right-bottom of the General tab you should find the amount of memory it currently has.

Then dig up the specifications for the computer. If you have an HP, go to the HP website and look them up there. They may no longer be in the Find My Computer search, but if you search the website for your computer model number, the documents should still be around (mine was). See if the computer can handle more RAM than you currently have. If it can, note the EXACT kind and speed and how many slots you have to fill (usually two). That's the amount to get.

Read up on the steps to install it (not difficult) or have someone "throw it into the machine" for you.

    Hope that helps.

Virus !! Virus!!! Virus!!! . Sometimes certain virus programs auto-initiate multiple tasks that are hidden to the users but they are actually running in background. This slows down the processor and haults the normal functioning of the programs initiated by the user.

Solution: You need to update your anti-virus software and run a thorough scan.

P.S: Remove all unwanted large sized softwares from your PC.

If the problem still persists, reinstall your operating system. I guarantee it'll run smooth.

    HTH :)
