When i try to open my folder it says the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable. How can i fix it?

That message is usually due to 'errors' on the hard drive.
You should run Chkdsk :
Open the "Computer" window
Right-click on the drive in question
Select the "Tools" tab
In the Error-checking area, click <Check Now>.
That is for Windows 7,but for XP it`s very similar
Sometimes,it will want to run at startup instead of right at that moment so allow it to run at startup.
There is no guarantee that it will recover the contents of that folder,but anything it does recover will be put in a folder called 'found.000' which will be put in your in your C:\ drive (assuming you have a default setup)
To see that folder you will have to 'unhide hidden files and folders'.See here -
