I'm a 17 yrs old girl going to London alone this summer, any suggestions? PLZ HELP?

hi i'm 17 and i'm going to london for the Central saint martins summer courses. for around a month.

i'm going alone and staying at one of the student halls- is this dangerous for a teen girl? and is it easy to make friends there? i would certainly like somebody to show me around and to hang with- it's my first time there.

so any suggestions? and how do teens dress there? are some tank tops that are 'too revealing' a no?

thanks for your help, i'm so nervous lol cuz its my first time traveling alone

Staying in students hall will be easy to make friends, the drinking age is 18 over here, so presuming you'll be staying with people roughly the same age, there is most likely to be partys in the dorms etc, which you could join in with, whether you wish to drink or not. There will be other teenage girls there aswell, if you worry about a lad just say so to them, brits love helping people (..unless they are late for something important, just don't pick the ones who are 'pegging it')

Summer clothes tend to be either t-shirt&shorts/summery dress with a pair of sandals for gals, just general summer clothes, but if your worried about fitting in just check up on some british clothing websites, average ones tend to be riverisland, dorothyperkins, topshop... a quick google will bring up plenty, you could always pick up some new-ens whilst your here aswell, an excuse to shop :)

As with all cities you just have to be smart and consider of what could happen, better to do so before than be thinking '..I wish I had' afterwards, I travelled to many capitals on business and felt the safest in London. You can 'google street view' nearly every raod in London to familiarise yourself with the area, it will probably reassure family or whoever your leaving back in America aswell :)

Just remember to enjoy yourself, its a great oppurtunity.

The first answer is just rubbish. It's fine to be by yourself in London, it's just like any major city, you've just gotta be aware and avoid places that look a bit dodgy. I'm from London and you'll have no problem finding a legitimate taxi. And it's a very diverse place, lots of different styles of fashion and such.

London is not a safe city to be alone in! try to get to know some people on student forums or something like that so you have people you even remotely know before you go there, do not go out alone EVER at night and never get into a taxi unless you are sure it is a genuine taxi.

I think that London is one of the safest UK cities.Specially In central London where many of the universities are it is very safe.....but u need watch out for pickpockets and stuff.Avoid traveling on buses in night specially wen ur alone and be careful alert around ATMs....Just be street smart not paranoid....And I'm sure, you're gonna make friends soon and gonna enjoy your time here!tc
