Question about lawn maintenance?

We live in a rural area so our land is left to grow as it pleases. We mow it once every couple weeks, and that's it so maybe that's why I don't understand lawn maintenance but...

How do you, or do you, maintain your lawn? I giggle when I drive by a housing subdivision that is down the road from us and everyone is out mowing their yards in pretty patterns and watering their grass day and night, plucking weeds, seeding, fertilizing, etc. It's almost like an obsession! I've even seen people get in disputes over "You threw your yard trimmings in MY yard!" and stuff like that.

Do you give a flying hoot if your yard is continually green, weed free, and fertilized? Or do you just mow it?

From a parenting perspective, where you've posted this, have your kid do it. Keep them away from the chemicals, though.

My lawn maintenance schedule consists of:

    1) spend 10 minutes trying to start the lawn mower

    2) mow the lawn (leave clippings on lawn. It's like free fertilizer)

    3) trim the big hedge between my yard an neighbor's yard once every 2 weeks

    4) spray weeds

    5) pull weeds (sometimes they get as big as tomato plants)

    6) wait for kids to grow up and take over

We have a yard guy that comes with his crew about every week or 10 days. My husband will not consider mowing it himself.

We really don't care about our yard as long as it does not get too shaggy. And I don't fertilize. Just unhealthy. Once or twice a year will will pay for the lawn crew to put some weed killer on it. But that is more the benefit of our neighbors. As honestly I don't care.

I keep our yard neat looking and mowed. It's not weed free because I don't believe in chemical weed killers as those are way too harsh on the environment (drinking water). As long as the yard is mowed, you can't really tell if there are weeds unless you really look for them.

First, secure all the customers you can handle, then secure all the equipement you will need, such as atleast two lawn mowers encase one breaks, you will need a string trimmer of good quality a rake shovel , and some means to haul off the yard waste. keep an appointment book, and be promt when showing up for the job. be dependable when you tell some oneyou will be there at a certain time be there. if you can't make it let the customer know. If you do a good job, your customers will take care of most of your advertising, by reccomending you to friends and acquaintences. Good luck on your business venture

I like my lawn to look nice, but I don't get crazy with it! We mow/weedeat once a week, it seems to do the job. Our neighbor is retired, and all he does is take care of his lawn. He's outside doing something every day to it!! I do also have to go pull weeds in the "flower bed" because we're trying to sell the house, and it's important it looks nice.

I'm not overly fussy about it, but I do like it to look nice. I aerate my lawn, re-seed it as necessary, sprinkle it with compost on occasion and pull weeds. I keep my grass at a mid length so I don't need to water it often. I like it to look well maintained. With that said I wouldn't freak out if someone lived close enough to get grass clippings in my yard or walked on it.

I just mow and edge so it's nice and neat. Other than that, I don't even water. I think when you're part of a neighborhood or subdivision, it's only considerate to at least keep it neat. My next door neighbor mows, but never edges and it just makes the rest of us around him look bad.

Other than creating an attractive backdrop and significantly upping home value, a well kept lawn will prove to be more than the effort.

To understand this, it is crucial to know what your lawn has to offer:

    - sound absorption

    - prevent soil erosion

    - fight pollution

    - trap dust particles

When it comes to lawn care and maintenance, it really depends on the amount of time you can afford to put into this task as well as the convenience.

Um, yes, I care very much about the way my yard looks and take great care of lawn, flower beds and trees. I would be very angry if my neighbor did not feel the same way because a crappy looking neighboring property can bring the value of mine down and make the entire neighborhood less appealing.

Lol..yeah, with the discussions of yesterday...I thought they were making a comeback :)

We just mow our yard...I have several flower beds and a few vegetable beds, as well...they have to be weeded and watered, but that's about it. I prefer to keep it simple.
