What can I do if I've been charged twice to my account?

I went to a restaurant once last week and I noticed I was charged twice the same amount. I only want to the restaurant one time and ordered once. Is there anything I can do to be reimbursed? Who should I contact my bank or the restaurant?

Bruce is confused. It doesn't matter why the charge ran twice, OR who ran the charge. The restaurant owes you for the extra charge, even if it was processing error outside of their control. Contact the restaurant first, to give them a chance to do the right thing. Next contact the bank to inform them the reversal should be coming, and you will fill a dispute if it has not processed by this time next week.

Note: The ONLY reason to care who the server was is if the restaurant wishes to investigate them for possible fraud, which is not your concern.

Both. Call the restaurant first and talk to the General Manager, explain the situation. Most systems are computerized and he can find out who the server was and why it was charged twice. Go see your bank and tell them the same thing. (If it was debit) If it was a credit card, call the card company.

NOTE: If it was debit, that means you swiped your card twice. Why?

Maybe if Steven would read, I stated to call the Restaurant first. I never said the restaurant was not responsible.

There are times when the bank processing centre makes an error and it is out of the restaurant's control.

The third point is the consumer has to be vigilant, and if the server asks to swipe the deboit card a second time, they should question why. Have dealt withthis type of issue in restaurants for 30 yrs, I am confident in my knowldege

Contact them both. If the restaurant doesn't fix it, the bank will.
