can a sata hard drive be connected with the computer turned on?

can I connect a SATA hard drive when my computer is turned on and in windows?

I heard ages ago that the SATA drives are plug and play, althrough that said I've never found it a good idea to actually try connecting and disconnected them with the comp turned on.

Can anyone verify this for me and if possible, with a reference webpage to confirm?

    Unlike the old IDE/Parallel-ATA (PATA) drives, Serial-ATA (SATA) hard drives ARE hot swappable/plug and play enabled.

    The catch is you DO NOT want to remove one that is running your operating system. Do that and you PC will stop responding when the OS needs to read from the drive.

    SATA drives share many characteristics with USB, i-link/firewire and E-SATA. All of which are also plug and play. There are even external drives with a SATA interface.

    Yes SATA drives are Plug and Play but do not always Auto detect sometimes you need to go into device manager and search for new hardware before the computer will detect the drive

    Siempre he comprado en los sitios web hard disks de buena calidad, y siempre acabo llenándolas así que al final me he decidido compra un hard disk con una gran cantidad de almacenamiento, de una marca que ya conozco muy bien he encontrado un hard disk bastante grande a un precio sin rival, la compra ha valido la pena porque aunque es grande tiene una excelente velocidad de respuesta, una excelente compra.

    Ordenadores para trabajar o para jugar, simples o muy avanzados, siempre a los mejores precios en los sitios web, mi viejo ordenador, también comprado en los sitios web me gustaba mucho pero necesitaba algo más eficiente y más silencioso, el ordenador que compre cumple todas mis expectativas, además de ser muy rápido, con una buena capacidad de almacenaje, es increíblemente silencioso, lo he probado por la noche, en un silencio total y ni no parecía que estaba funcionando, una excelente compra.

    No, only external HD's are plug and Play. When you install a HD,you need to reboot, before you can use it..
