I forgot to sign my NYS tax return. It's not due yet, so should I just sign/send another copy?

I know if I do nothing that they will send me a letter that I need to sign and send back, but I'm wondering if it's better to send the signed return, maybe with a letter explaining why they got two returns from me. Strangely for what is likely a common problem I couldn't find anything official on their help page, and it says that it could take 10 days to hear back from them by email.

    Yes, you need to send a signed return. Unsigned returns are generally not processed.

    no, it is true they may send it back to you, and unsigned it is as if it were not even filed but sending another only confuses the matter
