Can I update my video card, an ASUS AMD socket 754 VIA chipset X8V-mx & bypass Microsoft sites?

    Regardless of your PC's hardware, the simplest way to "bypass Microsoft sites" (whatever that means), is switch to the Linux Distro of your choice.

    Second Life runs on Linux just like it ran on Windows.

    And, Linux Mint is a good first choice for "Windows Switchers", for example:
