Can somebody please tell me what marrow bones are?

They are called for in a potato and leek soup recipe I am looking at. Thanks.

Update:

thanks L and Hollee B, that's what I thought. It also called for chicken broth and it confused me. I wasn't sure if they meant chicken or cow.

Marrow bones are bones which have a lot of bone marrow in them. These are typically the long bones of an animal such as a cow, namely the leg bones, such as in beef shanks. You'll want them to be cut into 1-2 inch long sections. Many supermarkets will sell packages fo beef "soup bones", which are sections of marrow bones cut up into sections, just like you'll need for your recipe. If you can't find them in the displays, ask the butcher.

If you mean bone marrow, it's the circular piece of softer material in the center of the bone. Like in our bodies. They have it too.

The dish looks like chopped bone?

Beef bones that are large and cut up. You can use leg bones or oxtail.

Boil them and make a stock for soup.
