How many violent crimes in the UK last year were directly linked to video-games?

Because of the ongoing debate on 'The Wright Stuff' regarding video-game violence, I've been looking for solid, statistical evidence of just how many crimes are considered (by the authorities or otherwise trustworthy sources) to be linked directly to the playing of video-games. All I can find so far are very vague statistics on general crime from the Home Office, and a lot of clearly biased "estimations" from websites supporting one argument or the other.

Being a gamer, I'm just interested in seeing for myself whether some people's claims that violent video-games are causing violent crime are actually at all relevant.

The problem here is that time and time again, the "connection" between violent crimes and videogames just isn't there. A lot of time I hear about some morally panicked parents blaming crimes on games, never goes anywhere. Sure there's vague studies and allegations that connect violence to videogames, but every one of those murky and unclear studies, there's one that's more definite and clear that refutes that claim.

It's a controversial topic that's not grounded in any factual conclusions that cannot be debated by the other side. I don't think discussion will ever lead anywhere. But I think most rational people believe that a person's violence or antisocial behaviors come from within themselves and not from something that has little psychological influence as videogames do. If videogames were as psychologically harmful as they say, all life-long gamers would show symptoms of increased violent behavior and the connection between games and crimes would obvious. But that's just not the case.

EDIT: Link to news article below. It seems like the people on the show were just another typical group of schmucks who have idea what a videogame is. Shameful "news" coverage on their behalf.

Video games only impact people in such a way if they are susceptible to suggestion. They do not make violent people. Violent people happen to play videogames, but that does not mean videogames caused it. In terms of children, parents must take responsibility. It is the parents purpose to raise their children and to help development. If parents cannot or do not teach their children the difference between fantasy and reality, they're doin a pretty sloppy job. Nevertheless, children imitate what they see, regardless of whether they totally understand it or not, and some children carry videogame experiences with them. Parents have to teach children what is appropriate behaviour, if they cannot, they are at fault more than anything else
