what do you think about extreme couponing?

I myself do use coupons but I can't see how these people are getting out of the store with paying so little by using coupons. something seems fishy. Sure you can save a little but that much in one trip really? To me if it is real these people border on hording/ addiction. A lot of canned and processed food and little if any spent in the meat, produce, dairy aisles. And let's get real 35 maalox and 77 mustards at a time! how is that saving money?

I think they are insane! If you added up all the time they spend collecting, sorting, cutting, and organizing their shopping trip not to mention the actual time in the store and put that into the equation they are actually losing money!

They eat, breathe and sleep coupons....what about their kids, husband, friends and other family members? What about their health? Is it just the shows I watched or are all these people over weight? Have you seen their food choices? Hot dogs, cheap as S meat, sugary cereal, chips, soda, juice & deodorant? Who the hell needs to stock pile that much food and supplies? How much do these people stink? Where are the vegetables and Fresh foods??? What are they teaching their kids, it's not quality it's quantity? Eat crap as long as you can get it for cheap or free? Time has no meaning only thing that matters is how many mustard's you can fit into your cart without paying for? At the end of the day/week/month/year/your life it's not what you did or who you touched it's what you spent or not?

Source(s): me: mom to 5, don't use coupons, rather spend my time with my kids, husband, family and friends then with a newspaper. Most foods I buy have no coupons. Bulk of my food is found in the produce section. My time has more meaning then money could ever!!

If you have time to do it I guess it's fine and they do often walk out of the store with a cart full paying almost nothing. I've seen it first hand...about 15 years ago I was at a supermarket and the woman in front of me had a cart full of groceries. She pulled out a handful of coupons and when all was said and done, she paid about 5 dollars. And there are now countless more sources for coupons than there were then which is probably why it's become as popular as it is now.

The problem with most coupons though is that they're for the processed foods you mentioned that are usually full of preservatives, fat and sodium like TV dinners, etc. I haven't watched the show but if they're getting that much of one thing, they are either giving it away to friends and/or relatives or there could be a hoarding problem.

I'd love to use more coupons but most of the ones out there are for foods I would never eat.

If they're donating the excess to charity, I think it's fine.

If they're hoarding the 35 maalox and 77 mustards, then I think they have some kind of addiction or compulsion.

I saw one where the man had his entire garage loaded with 1500 toothbrushes and such (he's got a problem) and then another where they donated it to a local food bank/shelter.
