cashing in old coins at a bank (UK)?

I have a carrier bag full of pre decimal one and two shilling coins (5 and 10p equivelant). Where can i cash them in, or are they just useless and for the bin?

Don't throw them away. Old coins can't be changed at a bank but they have a value to collectors and even some theatre troupes (amateur dramatics).

Google or Yellow Pages for your nearest coin dealer. You may get 1:1 value exchange but you'll certainly get something and the coins themselves wil get a new life somewhere.

If you have pre-war (WW2) shillings, florins or half-crowns then these may contain real silver and so be worth a bit more.

there are websites where you can sell them and if need be you would have to go to the bank of england with them.
