Old Roger down there is right because almost all of the opium and heroin that enters the US comes from Afghanistan but collateral effects are more crime, more illegal immigration, more addicts, etc. Personally, I would legalize EVERYTHING: abortion, guns, booze, drugs of all kinds, gambling, prostitution, EVERYTHING and I would have the states sell it and collect taxes on it. Every state would have its "Sin Cities". That would help their budgets a lot, take a lot of people out of jail who oughta be in rehab or mental institutions. But like in corporate America, you only get two shots at rehab paid for by the government; any more and you're on your own.

Opium and heroin can be used quite legally by the drug companies......they could buy it for pain reducing drugs giving the Afghans a legal crop. We are not in Afghanistan to free the people or kill the drug trade. We are there as part of the now ongoing take over of the middle east oil supply. Russia would like Afghan land.....thats why we are in Afghanistan......democracy has nothing to do with any of this.

Less of an impact on the USA directly than would have been true twenty years ago. The US heroin market has seen dramatic increases of South and Central American Heroin in the last twenty years.

South East Asian heroin has a much smaller market share in recent years, with most going to the EU and the emerging world markets.

I'd suggest that this in part is a response to the rising economies of South and East Asia, which has also resulted in their rise in recreational drug use,

If we allow the natives to continue with the only economy they know they are more likely to allow us to take over their commerce which is the mission.

It creates more addicts and more crime. But, why does not the USA simply buy and destroy every Opium field in Afghanistan since they are there?
