I reported my friend for benefit fraud and now feel guilty help?

Ok me and my friend have been friends for years but id always noticed money going missing 10 pound here 20 pound there but refused to believe it was her.

Last week we went to my grans house and she had her pension on the side, after we left she rang and said £100 was missing,i confronted my friend she said "yes i took it but proove it ."

Anyway i was so angry for the past 4 years she has been claiming sickness benefits saying she never leaves home and is agrophobic but she works 36 hours a week and gets paid cash in hand as well as £190 a fortnight benefits.

I snapped and reported her,now i feel guilty ...help?

Update:

she is shes on incapacity high rate

You did the right thing - let's face it, she's getting money she's not entitled to which is effectively the same as stealing it (which she has admitted she also does). Look at it another way - would you be happy knowing she was claiming benefits while another more deserving person missed out? Chances are you would say no! I'm very glad you did report her and I hope everyone who reads your question agrees.

The only thing you should feel guilty about is not reporting her earlier to be honest, for her to be stealing all this money from tax payers like me and then to steal £100 from an old lady is despicable, she is the lowest of the low.

ok it was a bitchy thing to do but to be honest i'd do the same she stole money from you and your family there's something wrong with her, and loads of people claim money for not working but most of them don't steal from their friends, im sorry to hear that she was your friend for years and you trusted her, i know how that feels and i broke my friends hand for it, so trust me what u did was harmless, she doens't deserve you as a friend, don't feel guilty hun just accept that your friendship is over because of what you both did. x

Don't feel guilty, you haven't done anything wrong. It's people like that that make it so tough for the ones who really do need the benefits to get them xx

You have no reason to feel guilty for doing the right thing. Your "friend" is a thief and stole from your grandmother. I wouldn't call anyone who would do that a friend.

Say good riddance and feel good for reporting her.

she deserves to be arrested, she's a fake, a fraud, a cheat and scum of the earth, why the hell is she on benefits, if she's got a full time job, she's not disabled therefore i doubt she's getting 190 a fortnight

You did the right thing, you may be feeling guilty because you are friends but someone who is dishonest like that shouldn't really be your friend
