I'm not looking for people to praise the mets and i'm also not looking for people to say "Mets suck, (insert favorite team here) is way better.

I would just like to know peoples thoughts on the Mets for the present and near future.

Oh the Mets hahaha. They're a very interesting team. They have the talent, they hav the experience, and they have the potential to be a great team. But on the the other hand, they've been running into recent financial/legal troubles, they're traditionally an injury-plagued team, and they haven't lived up to their true potential yet. I'm assuming youre a Mets fan so I have some bad news: the Mets are not a contender this year. They've been decent so far (despite the lousy record), but they follow the same pattern every year: perform well the first half and lose it in the second half. However, if they turn it around and take are of the off-field issues in the front office, I think they'll be great in the future. The talent is there, they just have to use it and avoid the injuries that ruin their hopes every season. Keep your spirits up and continue to support them because they will turn it around soon.

I think the Mets are in a similar position as the Cubs right now, but with worse finances.

Like the Cubs, the Mets have a lot of aging players signed to big contracts. Johan Santana, for example, is looking like a bust. It will take a couple years to get some of those guys off their books and develop a young core.

As for the financial situation, the Mets will pull through. Yeah, the lost $6.2 million last year, and the Madoff scandal is a black mark on their ledgers, but with a little help from MLB and the partial ownership sale, they'll be back on track very soon. Even in a down year, the Mets pulled down $233 million in revenues last year (6th highest in baseball), so we know they can be profitable again.

I don't think the Mets will stay down for long. They have too much in the way of financial resources. Within about 2-3 years, they'll have an emerging base of talented young players, and they'll supplement those guys with some high-profile free agents. Look for them to contend again by 2014 at the latest.

The fact is before they can make serious moods they have to get from under some of the bad contracts Minaya committed them to, they have no flexibility for this year. I think roughly $80M comes off the payroll after this year. By having a couple of down years, they can get some quality drift picks that will be ready by 2014, and I believe they can deliver a Championship by the middle of the decade.

Minaya was not a good baseball man and the mistake was to let him run the organization.

They are overpaying for old or under-achieving players. Reyes play has not matched his incredible talent, Beltran, Bay, KRod and Santana have been flops, and Oliver Perez was a huge mistake. The only real talent they have right now is Wright, though Davis and Thole (kind of) have potential.

Minaya and Manuel ruined this team, much like Dusty Baker and Jim Hendry ruined the Cubs, and it will take several years for the new regime to right the ship. Unfortunately, nobody (expect Hendry) will be stupid enough to take on the big contracts the flops have locked the team up with, so they're stuck with them.

The Mets are in a screwed situation. I am no expert on finances or anything, but it appears as it the Wilpons have run the organization into the ground. However, since they are a New York team, there is hope because of their high payroll. Also, the firing of Omar Minaya can only help the organization in the long run. That guy was a disaster.

The mets have some of the best young pitchers in baseball. The future looks bright.

The Mets are doomed. The Wilpons will be in a lot of trouble and probably need to sell the team. They'll end up giving away all their players and get next to nothing for them. Top players like Reyes, Beltran, Bay, K-Rod, etc. will be traded.
