is it ok to use expired b&w film?

i have some old film laying around which is t-max 400 that has expired back in 2005 and it has not been freezed but stored at room temperature

    Yes, it should be fine. I've processed old black and white film that was 20 or so years old, it came out rather muddy but there were still images on the film. As long as it's been stored at around room temperature, six year old film should be fine. If you're worried you can ask the lab to push process it but it will most likely be okay, might just lack some contrast.
