Trouble with Diablo 2 on Windows 7?
I have Windows 7 Home Premium on my laptop. I was recently bought the Diablo 2 Battle Chest with both the game and the Lord of Destruction expansion. I installed it all just fine, and it does start up, but now I'm having a couple issues.
The main problem is that while I play, objects that get brighter (like in the circular light around the character), the pixels start going crazy colors. Sometimes if the object is normally bright, the pixels will already be rainbow'd, like the crates in the starting camp. I tried downloading the Expansion patch, and I tried running it in compatibility mode for Windows XP Service Pack 3, but neither worked.
Also, possible normal and unrelated, it takes roughly two minutes to start up. In the upper left corner of my desktop, a single black box appears with a changing alphanumeric character, and once it goes through all the characters, the game will start. Is this normal?
Thanks in advance for any help!

i know what you mean, i've experienced this before and found a solution to it...
well first the compatibility settings:
comp.mode for Windows XP SP3
disabled visual themes
disabled desktop composition
run as admin
now the part where the screen colors go wild:
go to your desktop, right click, click "Screen Resolution"
then go play D2
weird as it may seem, it really works,(I REALLY WONDER WHY)
just leave the Screen Resolution window open...
sometimes the colors will be slightly go off again, when this happens, just press the window key then go back to D2...
i really dunno why this works but it always works for me...
it as also the same for Starcraft 1, ^^,

The first thing to try is to set it to run in compatibility mode (probably for Windows XP) and disable desktop composition. This might fix at least the color problem. Making a DEP exception for the game could conceivably help as well.

Try installing the service pack for Windows 7. I personally found updating via internet to be a bit too slow due to my slow internet connection. But seems Microsoft will send you a DVD of the SP1 pack for free if you order it.
