I often get e mails stating that my answer was chosen as best answer.?
I always look to see what the question was. Sometimes they are questions that I answered a year ago!

When a question is asked and the user didn't choose 'Best Answer’ the question then goes to voting for the community to vote. Until one answer has the majority of votes it will remain there until resolved. There are questions that have been in voting, as far back as 4 years.

Frequently, the answers receive an equal number of votes - a tie. There is a group of users who spend much time going to those questions to vote and relieve the backlog, category by category. Some of these answers are more than three years old! You might want to spend some time helping out - more votes are needed, since there are still so many questions hanging in a tie. (You can even pick your favorite category.)
