wasteful with second chances?

Asalamalaikum. 
I'm hoping someone out there can enlighten me on this as it's really making me angry!

I'm talking about people that are fortunate enough to get a second chance at something major in life, why is it that they don't seize the opportunity and make the most of it?
Why instead do they have such a lazy and wasteful attitude?

I had lost my second chance years ago because of my insecurity and I've long since regretted it. 

Young people, when second chances come, seize them immediately and don't end up like me with years of regrets.

they dont realize what they have till its gone

they think the chance will come again and dont want to waste time and do it at the end because it would be pointless, they dont know that the world could end any minute

and only Allah SWT will judge them on that....
