true or false? Indie was inspired by the punk ethic of DIY?

Independent labels have been around since before punk, but a lot of post-punk indie labels, true.

Very true. Sandwiched between was a decade of cultural greed and inulgence. Punk was a backlash against corporate rock of the time, however...while 90's indie was a backlash against the pretentiousness of ALL music that came before it. Nirvana spawned the whole 90's alt-scene, which was about stripped-down, imageless, purified rocking out. 90's rock was underground-oriented, hence the boom of independent music that still lingers today. Of course, the dawn of free music sharing has only contributed to the musical indepence of the 21st century, picking up where the 90's music left off. A shame that today's music itself can't seem to keep up.
