What are the next five books on your reading list? And some questions for authors, too.....?

Just curious.

Mine:

Russka: A Novel Of Russia, by Edward Rutherford

The Satanic Verses, by Salman Rushdie

The Coming Of The King, by Nikolai Tolkein

The Original Of Laura, by Vladimir Nabokov

The Wild Rose, by Doris Mortman

And some completely random questions that are completely optional. Just have to make to so it's 'books' AND 'authors'...ahahaha...

1. Do you have a 'failsafe' you always come back to? For example, one scenario you always find yourself writing? (Fanfic authors: One particular fandom you always come back to, one particular pairing?)

2. Writing it out with pen(cil) and paper or typing it out?

3. Do other people (whether friends, family, teachers, colleagues, etc) know that you write? If so, do you show them your work?

4. Any tips for other aspiring writers?

Hope you had fun answering this!

    Mine:

    1. Beyond Foo Book 1: Geth and the Return of the Lithens by Obert Skye (I can't wait!)

    2. Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

    3. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

    4. Throne of Fire by Rick Riordan (It's almost out! :D)

    5. Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

And now for the optional questions :D

    1. Actually no :) I try to mix it up each time I write, so I don't really have a failsafe.

    2. Definitely typing it out. Not only is it MUCH faster to type my stories, but I have TERRIBLE handwriting haha :D

    3. Lots of people know that I write. I only show my close friend and family my work though :)

    4. Never ever ever give up! I went to a writing conference a few days ago, and one published author said she sent in around 180 query letters and 50 submissions before finding the right agent and getting published. Also, be realistic. Writing a book doesn't happen by magic. It takes a lot (and I mean a LOT) of hard work to write a book. Keep in mind that you don't have to finish a book and get published right away. The key is practice and determination. Also remember that even once you're published, there will be lots of people who don't like your book as well as lots of people who love it. Don't let the few who criticize your work harshly get you down. And finally, write to write. Write because you love it, because you'd go crazy if you didn't. Don't write just to get published. Getting published shouldn't be the goal, it should be the result of your goal. Read as much as you can about everything you can, and never ever ever give up :D

The John Grisham novels(my dad recommended them to me, haha), the Hunger Games series, and something else I forgot about...but that's more than 5 right there.

And maybe finishing the one I'm writing counts :P

    1. I'm a girl...(good/true/NOT TWILIGHT) romance gets me a lot. And I'm really attracted to sci-fi. I don't have any 'failsafes' though, since even a certain scenario can be written terribly.

    2. Both, except pen. For some reason I hate pencil...even though pens amount to more scribbles.

    3. My friend also writes, so I show her my work. And if it comes up in conversation, I'll tell them.

    4. I'm pretty new to writing(and I'm 15 too...don't take me too seriously I guess), but I've learned to NOT write when I don't want to. When I'm not in the mood to write, I'm not as creative and whatever I write in that time period ends up needing a LOT of editing. Get your creative juices flowing first :P

The Lord of the Rings, by JRR Tolkein (I know, I know, I should've read it a long time ago)

    Thirteen Reasons Why, Jay Asher

    Elsewhere, Gabrielle Zevin

    If I Stay, Gayle Forman

    Incarceron, Catherine Fisher

    1. Uhh, character development maybe? Usually I'm like, "Oh god I've got no plot! You, character over there: develop until I figure something out!"

    2. Typing.

    3. My momma's an English teacher, so she writes a lot. But I don't show anyone my work except my cousin and occasionally my sister.

    4. Write and read a lot.

    Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

    Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

    Crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick

    Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris

    Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead

    :)

    1. I don't think I do.

    2. Typing, definitely. I am a way faster typer than I am a hand writer.

    3. Everyone knows I write, but I don't like showing my work to them.

    4. Just keep writing, just keep writing....

    :)
