    Clarification: The legal change of one's name actually falls into a legal category. You probably do not realize it, but your question has been posted in the Genealogy section of Arts & Humanities. In genealogy we study our family trees/family histories. The only legal name changes that interest us are those of our dead ancestors.

    However, as a librarian by profession, I'll try to give you some direction.
