They haven't been dropped. The Lexus IS300 used an I6. The BMW 3 series are all I-6s (except the M3). Toyota Supra and Lexus SC300 were both I-6s. Jeep 4.0L is an I6 and was used until 2004 I believe.

    BMW uses inline 6 engines.

The Ram HD uses an inline 6 Cummins diesel.

Volvo has an inline 6 cylinder engine.

They're all sold in the US.

    WTF are you talking about?

Don't forget marine applications. Mercury Verado outboard uses a supercharged inline 6.

Ford was the last US maker to use an inline in a truck. It died in 1996. I think that BMW still has at least one that they use. Jeep used the 4.0 liter until very recently.

Why replace it? The only thing I have ever seen wear out is the holes where the butterfly shaft go through the base, and that can easily be re-bushed using a drill press and purchased brass bushings, or I would make my own on a small metal lathe. If you disassemble the carb and soak it in NAPA carb cleaner, reassemble with a new gasket kit, it will be as good as new.
