Do you think the playoffs should be expanded in Major League Baseball?

What do you think of my idea?

American League

1) New York Yankees (AL East)

2) Los Angeles Angels (AL West)

3) Detroit Tigers (AL Central)

4) Tampa Bay Rays (AL East Wild-Card)

5) Texas Rangers (AL West Wild-Card)

6) Minnesota Twins (AL Central Wild-Card)

National League

1) Philadelphia Phillies (NL East)

2) St. Louis Cardinals (NL Central)

3) San Francisco Giants (NL West)

4) Cincinnati Reds (NL Central Wild-Card)

5) Atlanta Braves (NL East Wild-Card)

6) Los Angeles Dodgers (NL West Wild-Card)

Wild-Card Series (Best of 5)

Detroit Tigers vs. Minnesota Twins (DET 3-1)

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Texas Rangers (TB 3-2)

San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (SF 3-0)

Cincinnati Reds vs. Atlanta Braves (ATL 3-2)

Division Series (Best of 7)

New York Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers (NYY 4-2)

Los Angeles Angels vs. Tampa Bay Rays (TB 4-3)

Philadelphia Phillies vs. San Francisco Giants (PHI 4-3)

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Atlanta Braves (STL 4-1)

Championship Series (Best of 7)

New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays (NYY 4-0)

Philadelphia Phillies vs. St. Louis Cardinals (STL 4-3)

World Series (Best of 7)

New York Yankees vs. St. Louis Cardinals (NYY 4-2)

Update:

For those of you who think a bye for the top 2 teams would mess up their game for the playoffs, what if they played a 5 game exhibition series to stay loose for the Division Series?

    I think it's a terrible idea.

-There are already too many games played before reaching the world series, like Lincecum said.

-What if the second wildcard team doesnt deserve to be there? A team with 80 wins could make the postseason, while teams with 88-90 wins in other divisions won't.

-When teams are laid off for several days in the postseason, they lose fire, it's a proven fact, we've seen it many times.

-Just like all of selig's ideas, it's a poor idea motivated by greed.

No. Baseball has the best playoff format as it allows for the absolute best teams to win, as opposed to a seventh or eighth seed that barely finished .500. As for the Blue Jays, no they can not outspend the Yankees or the Red Sox, but neither can the Twins, Rangers, Angels, Rays, etc. Other teams win the World Series and have made the playoffs without spending a lot of money. The Blue Jays can't win because they have players that hit home runs, but do nothing else.

So based on this system, the 2010 Boston Red Sox with 89 wins still wouldn't make the playoffs because the Rays and Yanks had a better record, yet an 81 win team in Oakland would ?

And neither would the 08 New York Yankees that won 89 games? This system is dumb. If you're going to expand the playoffs, make sure you get the most deserving teams in.

If it expands, I hope it only expands to 5 with a WC play in game. Anymore than that will make the playoffs drag on.

So the AL West team has a 50% chance of making the playoffs every year and an NL Central team has a 33% chance. That doesn't make sense at all.

Go back in our history. We'd be letting a 69 team in the AL West and a 94 win team in the NL Central won't make it. Where's the sense in that?

So you're just letting the top 2 teams from each division in? That means teams in the AL West have an advantage over other divisions and teams in the NL Central are at a disadvantage. It's a bad idea.

I think the current system is perfect but people like you and Selig will screw it up.

Yes I agree baseball should add expand playoff because it will help small market team gain more revenue.Listen both a Yankee & Giants fan get tire of hearing only Yankees & Redsox make it playoff year.We of large market contribute to help small market there nothing wrong with that as along into the team not owner pockets. If playoff get these teams & base hope going to World Series why not maybe with the extra revenue they sign big name free agents.

ZZz ZZz O sorry, i was napping , all those play-off games tired me out. There are too too many teams in your playoff system. After all, we already have a 162-game play-off now, eh? Maybe we should save your predictions to compare with the results in December. Yeah, December, that is when the Series will finish if MLB adds additional levels of play-offs. Boys of Summer, indeed!

If your going to expand the playoffs, it's gotta be in conference format and the wild card would have to be scratched.

This system makes it too unfair and not very practical. Also, baseball players can't be inactive for a long time, so first round byes would not work. A bye would be seen as a disadvantage in baseball if anything, it gets the players rusty and throws them off their rhythm.

Yeah right, and make them play in November in cities like New York, Detroit, Philadelphia, Cincinnati and, especially, Minneapolis.

I do beleive that not enough teams are getting in at the moment. While this may be a little overboard, it is still not as bad a NHL and NBA
