When i got mine pierced i had volleyball camp like 2 days after wards and I was fine. Also, I put one of those big bandaids over the piercing to avoid it being tore out or anything. I was a bit ocd about it though, so you probably dont have to do that. lol

You probably should have held off on getting this piercing until the off-season. It's reccomended that you DON'T do sit ups or strenuous activity in the initial month after getting a navel piercing. Your navel is at the hinge of your body and the inevitable amount of movement through the area means that navel piercings can be difficult and tempermental to heal, with a high rate of rejection and high chances of infection.
The piercing will ache for some time...navel piercings take from 4-12 months to heal, and any trauma to the area will only stall healing time and irritate the piercing. You can take anti-inflammatories like Nurofen, which may help with the ache, but it won't help if you tear newly healed tissues within the piercing. It also won't help the piercing to heal faster. If navel piercings are not properly taken care of during healing, they tend to reject, migrate, become infected, or end up having excessive amounts of scar tissue left behind.
Obviously you're not going to can basketball for your piercing, so the only thing that I can reccomend that you do is cover it with a bandage while you're playing. The buttons on my school uniform were enough to irritate the hell out of my navel piercing (which migrated out over the next five years), so sport will likely put it through hell. Goodluck though!

Your going to wanna be careful with that and be really easy on it for a while.. It will be crusty and red.. Mine wouldn't heal with salt water.... the piercer didn't recommend using rubbing alcohol but I did anyways and that made it heal so fast. I used a qtip in the rubbing alcohol and gently rubbed the holes. My sisters never healed. She only used the salt water like the piercer said. She ended up taking it out.
So once its red and a little crusty.. it will be sore for up to 2 weeks or more.. you gotta be gentle with it and not move it too much during your sports. Try rubbing alcohol when you feel ready for it... maybe not right away.
