Which pop/rock band holds the Guinness Book record for loudest screaming audience in decibles?

Lyndsey Parker on kids.yahoo.com mentioned years ago, that Hanson has broken the record for "the loudest screaming at a concert, at an eardrum-obliterating 140 decibels (14 decibels louder than previous record-holders The Who). Who holds the world record now?

    1969:

Led Zeppelin's "Heartbreaker" is said to have reached 130 dB (SPL) observed by a team of participants at the American Speech–Language–Hearing Association.[3] Daniel Kreps of Rolling Stone argues that "Whole Lotta Love" established Led Zeppelin's reputation as one of the loudest bands of their time.

As far as I know, it hasn't been broken yet.

Your best bet to find out is to e-mail the people at Guiness Book. They'll know for sure.

BTW, Hanson also, in 2005, broke Australia's record for loudest concert.

  • If I had to take a wild guess, I would think that it would have to be a band where their main demographic would be chicks, since they are extremely shrill and can reach unheard of pitches. Hanson is not at all hard to believe. I was thinking some boyband or justin beiber.
