Terrible night for football...?

In my opinion, tonight's match between Barcelona and Real Madrid was just disgusting. Here we have top athletes, who are supposed to be role models for young people coming up, falling to the ground like they'd been shot when they're brushed against, abusing the referee, blatant cheating. Soccer has long has its problems, but tonight I think just sums up one of the worst nights of football I've ever seen. Let a fantastic goal by Messi (he's a little star, in fairness to the lad) be the one shining light. However, it is not going to mask the sheer ugliness of what went on there tonight. This was supposed to be an advertisement for football between two of the biggest and best teams in the game, and it just turned into an embarrassment.

God knows the English game has its problems with divers and the like, but I think we've really seen the dark side of La Liga tonight. I really do not think that Alex Ferguson would have behaved the way Mourinho did, and I do not think that a match would ever get as out of control as this in the Premier League. I'd be the first the chastise the Premier League, but I think tonight tops anything I've seen so far.

What do you all think?

The fact is that this sort of behaviour is becoming the culture of football everywhere, including in the UK. Recent 'old firm' games in Scotland have been as volatile as we saw tonight, not to mention sending bombs to people!

The media is not blameless in this as every tiny incident now gets blown out of all proportion.

I agree completely. Shocking night for football and Spanish football in particular.

All the talk was that the game would be a great display of football, skill, passion, flair, etc but all it had was cheating, diving, and abusing the referee. If it wasn't for Messi at the end of the game then it would have been much worse.

English football has problems with certain players diving and disagreeing with every foul etc but last night proved that our league is much better in every way when compared to Spain. The football that Barcelona play is superb but I'd rather watch Arsenal, who play in a similar way but don't dive, cheat, and abuse the referee unlike Barcelona.

    Very disappointing night.

Agree. The performance from arguably the two best clubs sides in the world was nothing short of disgusting. The first half was like watching compost rot while the second, Mesi's goals apart, was jusy a series of playacting, bad temper, poor passing and idiotic behaviour.

The Old Firm game in Scotland last week was a far more entertaining and, believe it or not, a much better footballing spectacle than this.....that's simply how bad my buddies and I thought of it.

at the beginning, the Colts scored a million TD on the Bears D in the time that they performed, including that objective line stand after Grossman threw a p.c... they did no longer "circulate the ball at will." That TD the Colts scored grew to become into extra a count of field place that the Colts strolling down the sector. 2d of all, neither Tommie Harris nor John Tait began. Thirdly, the particular communities regarded very stable (why every person remains kicking to Hester is previous me). sure, i will admit that Grossman regarded shaky, and that made me uneasy, yet once you think of Minnesota's offense with Tavarus Jackson is extra useful than Chicago's, you're regrettably incorrect. by the way, the Jets suck. The Bears will win the NFC North. And anyhow, its nonetheless the preseason. i think of we could have got here upon veggiefootballfan's "famous individual working decrease back cousin."

they surely did not give good example to young athletes (both teams) however, Messi's goals were amazing especially the second one :D.

anyway i was shocked by Mourinho's behaviour really bad example for many people or when Adebayor pushed Busquet's face. It surely doesn't promote RESPECT towards another player. There were flaws from Barca as well e.g. Pinto got red card for a fight. Huge disappointment :(

Oh well at least Messi scored two spectacular goals.

It's all because of the mean genius called Mourinho.

His tactics and his attitude sparks the violence.

But then again, it's El Classico and it's mostly violent. Pretty obvious if you know of the differences and tensions between Catalonia and Castillia. It's not just football.

You are absolutely correct. If that is the best Spain can offer, i say keep it. It was a disgrace to football.

By the way, Jordan is a muppet.
